"Wet Dream," Richard Wright's debut solo album, certainly holds a permanent place in music history and not just because of its name. Now, on the 80th birthday of the Pink Floyd co-founder who died in 2008, it is being reissued on vinyl for the first time since its original release in 1978. And in a particularly impressive, deep blue marbled pressing. And that's not all: for the first time ever, "Wet Dream" will also be available on streaming platforms, including as a new Dolby Atmos mix, as well as on CD and on Blu-ray, here supplemented by a 5.1 mix and never-before-released personal images and videos from that period of Wright's life. On July 28 - the actual date of his 80th birthday - the reissue of "Wet Dream" will first be released on CD and stream, with vinyl and Blu-ray editions of the album to follow on September 29. The reissue was remixed by a grand master of the guild, Steven Wilson. You can also look forward to brand new artwork authorized and designed by Gala and Jamie Wright, Richard's children and estate executors. As with the original release, the bi-fold sleeve can be flipped open to enlarge the image. Which is worth doing, because as then, the view opens onto a richly vibrant color palette. This time, however, the unknown person in bright red shorts is swimming in the deep blue waters of the sea instead of a pool, and the expanded spectrum of the image reveals a view of a boat just out of their reach. The photo references the album's underlying nautical theme and was taken by Costas Spathis, a photographer living and working in Greece. (Which, as fans will know, closes another circle, since the album was written there at the time) The graphic design is by Carl Glover. The original artwork was designed by Storm Thorgerson and photographed by Aubrey Powell for Hipgnosis. It can be found in the vinyl booklet. Listening to "Wet Dream" today and rediscovering it for yourself, it's clear how much of Richard's DNA is in Pink Floyd. His distinctive rhythm patterns, the song structures, and his whole style of playing - all of it is here in its purest form, underscoring his unique talent and influence on modern music. All of this could have been seen back then - and yet "Wet Dream", released after Pink Floyd's "Animals" (1977) and just before "The Wall" (1979), didn't get anywhere near the appreciation it deserved back then. Steven Wilson's mix now brings the record to life and shines a spotlight on Wright's brilliance. The latter wrote and produced the entire album himself at the time. "Wet Dream" was one of only three albums he released outside of Pink Floyd - his second solo album "Broken China" would not follow until 1996, and he also released "Identity" in 1983 under the name Zee, a joint project with Dave Harris of Fashion.
