Dario Argento is considered "the auteur filmmaker among horror film directors" (Rolling Stone). Brian de Palma called Argento's directing style one of his greatest cinematic influences. With cult films such as "Suspiria" (1971, with Jessica Harper and Udo Kier), "Profondo Rosso" (1975, with David Hemmings), "Phenomena" (1985, with Jennifer Connelly and Donald Pleasance) and "Opera" (1988), Dario Argento set extremely bloody but also eerily beautiful milestones in film history.
Dario Argento operated on and staged at the Teatro Coccia in Novara the Verdi opera based on Shakespeare's well-known bloodthirsty play.
This DVD/Bluray is not a normal opera production, it is a cult object for Argento fans and those who want to be. But it also has tremendous qualities musically.
