On his new album "My Old Friend: Celebrating George Duke" the unique singer Al Jarreau pays tribute to the keyboardist, composer and producer George Duke, who died in 2013. The two of them had been close friends since 1965, when they started their professional career together in San Francisco. For decades, their paths have crossed musically, most recently in May 2011, when they performed with Esperanza Spaulding at the sold-out New York jazz club The Blue Note for a week
To give an impression of Duke's immense stylistic range (ranging from post-bop, jazz-fusion and rhythm 'n' blues to Brazilian music), Jarreau assembled an impressive list of star guests: among them the two bass giants Marcus Miller and Stanley Clarke, saxophonists Gerald Albright and Boney James, singers Dianne Reeves, Kelly Price and Lalah Hathaway, Dr. John and former L. T.D.-DFrontman Jeffrey Osborne
Most of them had worked with George Duke himself at some point. Now, together with Al Jarreau, they reinterpret highlights and hits from the keyboardist's pen.
